THERMAL

I finally finished the neck ribbing, I am very happy with it, it was a bit of a challenge for me

Though I always say that I don’t like knitting bottom-up garments, I actually learn many new things each time I try making one. With top-down you can’t really go wrong for what concerns fittings and shapes… so I am happy I challenged myself with this pattern

The sleeves still need to be knitted and sewed. I just noticed that I don’t have any #4.5 mm dpn’s, so I will have to buy some.

It’s now currently on hold till I overcome my laziness and finally get to drive to the store

HEART VINES

I bought a skein of Valiani Nomotta some time ago cause I had a project in mind which actually never became reality. Since I had bought it in my usual yarn store down the street, it was at a robbery price, so I decided I HAD to do something with it no matter what.

I picked a hat pattern called Heart Vines from Ravelry. It’s a really cool pattern, very easy to follow and to remember, too bad that with this bloody yarn I could have knitted pretty much anything and the pattern wouldn’t be recognizable! By the way, if you ever see this yarn in a store and think about buying it, well then please think again. I have never seen anything as bad as that, not even the cheapest acrylic yarn is so rough, so stiff and totally lacks of elasticity. Never again!

Day 1 – just cast on and finished the ribbing

Day 2 – knitted up to half of the second pattern repeat, just about 20 rows missing before crown shaping

FAIR ISLE!!!

I loooooove Fair Isle knitting! I remember that my grandma once knitted me a pullover with the cutest butterfly pattern when I was a child! That’s probably where my love for fair Ialsnd knitting comes from Anyway, I posted some time ago about trying some easy pattern in order to get confident with it… since I liked the result I decided to try something more difficult and there it goes… a Blythe Hat!

I finished the main body of “Thermal” last night, so I wanted to show pics

I am still wondering if I should knit the sleeves in plain Stockinette stitch instead… we’ll see! The collar is also missing and I plan to have it done by this week
The problem is that now that I finally could try it on I have noticed that it’s a bit too short for my taste, which is funny cause I actually knitted it it almost 2 inches longer that what was recommended in the pattern! That’s why I HATE knitting bottom-up sweaters… I still don’t know how it happened, I knitted a small, but still I’m definitely not that tall that it would look short on me. Another knitting mystery which will remain unsolved.

I hope you all had a nice Christmas and year 2012 has been treating you well so far

I am currently studying for my last exam at Uni, I never thought this day would come! lol Anyway, I’m all set, my presentation in ready and I just can’t wait for monday to come… I still will have to wait till October to finally get my PhD title since my disertation is still not finished, but I’m sure I’ll manage in time somehow!

Ever heard about Domo Kun? It’s a japanese cartoon character… it’s supposed to be some scary creature but it’s actually just very cute

I found this pattern on ravelry today and I just HAD to share it! The author is right, there are not enough Domo Kun based patterns out there!

I must say I am pretty satisfied with the result… It was the firts time for me trying a Fair Isle pattern and I loved it!
This was just a test, sorry for the horrible colour choice, i just picked 2 random colours from my stash

More datails on upcoming projects to come

Remember when I mentioned having almost finished my Glitter Shrug after months of dead boring stockinette stitch? Well, I DID finish it and after reading a couple of tutorials I found online I decided it needed to be blocked… well, I don’t know what I did wrong, but it “gained” at least 2 sizes and it’s huge!!! I have decided to try and block it again, hoping that the cat will avoid sleeping on the wet garment this time so I have been looking for more tutorials and I found this video which turned out to be more helpful than many others I read.

Do you have a fave tutorial that you’d like to share?

So… I’ve been surfing ravelry a bit looking for the “perfect cowl”, something that looks warm, has a nice textured pattern, doesn’t look like factory produced one… and most importantly, that’s for free!

It was a hard choice picking one, I found at least a dozen that i’d like to knit… people are so creative That’s why I’m posting two of them, one is for free, the other is not, but I just find it amazing

Which one is your favourite?

When I saw this pattern I thought “what a cute idea!” jars and pins together…. I can can put together my lack of time for cooking marmalades and my unorganized way of storing buttons and other supplies and maybe make something cute out of it!

So here it is, as simple as it is…. but the simple things are making people happy, aren’t they?
